Here We Go Again: Pete Prisco Says Malik Willis Looks Like A Running Back

Here we go again.

Every time the draft comes up, someone has to tell us they think a certain “type” of quarterback isn’t up to their NFL standards and should be moved to running back. Even though this stereotype is over twenty years old someone will always fall victim to this played out trope.

Today’s victim is of course Liberty QB Malik Willis. Pete Prisco of CBS says that Willis is built like a running back and should be playing that position.

Here is what Prisco said:

This kind of thing drives me nuts. Outside of the standard issues and undertones of racism, he lacks any context of the Liberty offense which would have explained everything he has an issue with pic.twitter.com/4Wmz4Jim8V

What’s funny is no one is saying this about the other quarterbacks in the draft such as Sam Howell who run the ball a lot as well. Kenny Pickett got famous for doing a fake slide for goodness sakes! Does Malik have some things he needs to work on? Yes. Do I agree he isn’t a can’ miss top three prospect? Yes. But that doesn’t mean we should use outdated stereotypes to tear the young man down.

Facts are Liberty played very few games against top collegiate competition and Willis played poorly in almost every single one of those particular games. That is where you can criticize him, in the film he put on tape. Not “he looks like a running back.” Ok and what?

Let’s give these old tropes a rest. Things would be better for everyone if we remember to wish these young men the best no matter where they end up getting a chance to play professionally.
