After months of speculation, Washington team owner Josh Harris has put an end to any debate— the franchise will continue to be known as the Commanders.
Speaking on Monday, Harris confirmed that the organization has no plans to change the name, emphasizing that it is gaining acceptance within the team and community.
“I think it’s now being embraced by our team, by our culture, by our coaching staff. We’re going with that,” Harris stated.
The Commanders’ name, which was officially adopted in 2022 following the retirement of the previous moniker, has been met with mixed reactions from fans. While some had hoped for another rebrand, Harris’ announcement solidifies the team’s identity moving forward. With a new era underway under his ownership, Washington looks to focus on on-field success rather than name changes.
