Shannon Sharpe Faces Backlash Over “Horse Hair” Comment

Shannon Sharpe is under fire for a joke that many have labeled as rooted in misogynoir and anti-Blackness. Sharpe attempted to mock a Twitter user’s profile picture by referencing “horse hair,” unaware that the avatar was actually of Megan Thee Stallion, whom he had interviewed just two months prior.

Critics pointed out that “horse hair” is a derogatory term often used to demean Black women, and its use feels like a relic from the 90s—a time when such insults were more commonplace. Sharpe’s remark is seen as another unfortunate example of harmful stereotypes being perpetuated, especially against Black women. The incident has sparked a broader conversation about outdated language and the intersection of race and gender in public discourse.
