Shilo Sanders Draft Stock Takes Hit After Struggles Versus K-State
Known for his hard-hitting style, Shilo Sanders has been criticized for...
NY GIANTS 2017 NFL Mock Draft:
8. Giants: Jake Butt TE Michigan
Round 1 The Giants haven’t had a quality TE in a while. Butt offers a securtiy blanket that Eli hasn’t had in a while. He is a good 6’6″ 250 lbs. with the knowledge of how to work in space and eat up zone coverage. He also has magnets for hands. If the ball is thrown in his vicinity he is likely to make the grab. He is also a very sly player when it comes to pushing off. This will be cumbersome to opponents but excellnt for the Giants. He is a load to bring down because he just powers through defenders and knows how to make defenders miss in space. However, he does not have elite speed and does not have a second gear. He also isn’t as good of a blocker and needs to improve on this to be effective in the run game. He doesn’t have the atheltic ability of OJ Howard, but as a receiver he is more advanced.
9. Giants: Anthony Zappone ILB Eastern Michigan
Round 2 This is Anthony Walker from Northwestern. The Giants like the Redskins have gotten away with their LB play. Their defensive front and secondary have been good enough to hide an obvious weakness. Anthony Walker may not be the biggest LB, but he fits what the Giants are doing. He does a good job at flowing to the football and getting players in the backfield. He also can cover. He is quicker than fast, but he gets caught up on blocks. But because of Harrison and Hankins, blockers will not have much oppurtunity to get to him at the second level. He relies a lot more on ability than the mental aspect. He also doesn’t always wrap up and is ineffective as a blitzer.
10. Giants: Chad Wheeler OT Southern California
Round 3 The concerns along the offensive line for the Giants are well established, they do not have one. Wheeler offers a big body in pass protection with the strength to match up with most DE’s. He is also quick to get to the second level. He does have a little big of a temper problem and has had injury issues.
11. Giants: James Connor RB Pitt
Round 4 This is James Connor from Pitt. The Giants drafted Perkins last year, but they do not have a single RB right now and they do not have any kind of run game period. This may seem like a reach, but it is for a good player. Connor is known for tearing his ACL and then discovering he had cancer. But he is resiliant, he is back on the field and still doing work. He is a big boy at 6’1″ 230 lbs. with deceptive speed and runs with good power. While he needs to work on his ability as a receiver and blocker, as a runner he’s as good as it gets.
