2012 NFL Mock Draft: Denver Broncos

By
Updated: November 5, 2011

Finally we get around to the good old people at Dove Valley, and the Denver Broncos. 2011 has been a season that Broncos fans simply need to forget. Kyle Orton once again played average and unable to get wins, Knowshon Moreno again could not keep his starting job, and Demariyus Thomas got hurt again.

Tim Tebow has been a lighting rod of controversy as well. Though he is easily the most exciting player on this offense, he is also probably among it’s least effective at his position on the field. Tebow is completing a paltry 48% of his balls to wide receivers and is averaging being sacked 6 times a game. With the same offensive line, Kyle Orton was only being sacked two to three times. That unit has played ok in spades but as a whole the offense needs a jolt and you cannot put it on Tebow’s shoulders. He probably should not be asked to win games at this point in his development.

Defensively there are things to like, and things to hate. The front four looks decent with Broderick Bunkley and Robert Ayers shedding “bust” titles from earlier in their careers. The linebacker unit is playing well but still this team as a whole is suspect versus the pass with Brian Dawkins looking like he’s ready to call it a career.

So what do the Broncos do in the 2012 NFL Draft? I took it upon myself to put together the first of hopefully many Broncos mock drafts for you.

Draft below:

1

Broncos

Barkley, Matt

QB from USC

The Kyle Orton screen offense is in St. Louis so no need for him here. Tim Tebow is not a quality NFL QB right now. He may be a good backup later in his career but right now the Broncos need someone much further along in his development. Enter Matt Barkley, IF he declares (crossing fingers)

2

Broncos

Minnifield, Chase

CB from Virginia

This is wishful thinking, but with many other players moving up in this draft someone has to move down. If Minnifield is there in round 2 you have to take him. Wilhite is awful, and is probably the worst player on this team. That’s saying a lot.

3

Broncos

Martin, Doug

RB from Boise State

Im assuming we get a new right tackle in free agency. So I’ll go with the young RB here. Martin is super consistent and will bring us a tough young runner. Knowshon can be the 3rd down back.

4

Broncos

Powell, Tydreke

DT from North Carolina

I dont know if he will last this long, but Denver needs a young DT to rotate in with Bunkley and Marcus Thomas.

5

Broncos

Ryan, Mike

OT from UConn

Even if Fox finds a starting RT in Free Agency this unit needs to be upgraded on all levels.
