The buzz around Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders continues to grow, and...
Cam Newton has a new QB coach as he prepares for the NFL Draft. He is currently working with George Whitfield on getting comfortable under center and going through his progressions fluidly. Whitfield was Ben Roethlisberger’s QB coach during his suspension. This is showing that Cam at least is interested in improving his skills in the pocket for the immediate future.
It is just weird that guys can go first round and be drafted to do things they never did in college. This is the dreaded “Tebow problem” as I’ll call it now. How do you project a running QB from a spread offense as a NFL QB? Do the two months before the draft really mean that much?
There have been players that have made the transition from spread to traditional QB pretty nicely. Sam Bradford comes to mind, but then again he isn’t a runner and more of a pure passer. I’m not saying it can’t be done, and that I don’t think Cam can be the next success, but he certainly has his work cut out for him.
